Hollywood Walk of Shame
About a year and a half ago, I visited Los Angeles for the first time. While my primary purpose was to attend the ESPN X-Games, it wouldn't have been a true vacation without some good ole fashioned sightseeing.
The destination I was most excited to see was Mann's Chinese Theater/Hollywood Walk of Fame. Years of watching Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood and EXTRA impressioned in me a beautiful vision: a glamorous star-studded path, topped with an ornate theater every high-powered celebrity in the world has inhabited.
While the theater seemed alright, the Walk of Fame was dirty, worn and neverending. Stars of legends like Fred Astaire and Marilyn Monroe were slotted steps away from doors of stoner shops and tattoo parlors. The majority of names were unrecognizable, and were obstructed or strewn with random downtown debris.
Sadly, the highlight of this venture was seeing the star of Arsenio Hall. Woof, woof.
And then I heard the news...this past Wednesday, Ryan Seacrest received his very own Hollywood Walk of Fame star. I guess the HWOF committee will recognize any chump with $15,000 and a "body of achievement" - whatever that means. Remember folks, Seacrest is the guy with the failed TRL-like TV show, not to mention, the least famous personality on American Idol.
Who's next? Joe Rogan, MTV's The Real World Cast...or more likely, Paris Hilton. Ugh.

Ever see that VH1 special about Arsenio's show and how he tried to diss Vanilla Ice on-air but wound up getting booed by his own audience? Vanilla Ice was like "yo, your own crowd is booing you dude." Arsenio then got real defensive and was like "So what?! I don't care if they boo me....."

I was out on the Walk of Suggestability this summer just after Reagan and (I think?) Ray Charles had died. People had erected mini-shrines on their stars, making them not just something to walk ON, but something to walk AROUND (or trip over).
Ray's pile of love was larger than Ronnie's, at least.
