Good Times.
The following is the simplified transcript of a conversation that took place at my grandfather's house this weekend (immediately following a discussion of 9/11). All names and identities have been withheld to protect the innocent.
AUNT 1: [DISTANT COUSIN] is gay! I can't believe it. She doesn't look gay. She's so pretty! Maybe I'm confusing her with her sister.
AUNT 2: What, gay people can't be pretty?! Who told you this anyway?
AUNT 1: [DC]'s aunt did. She leaned over and whispered to me: "[DC] is gay."
MOM: I couldn't tell that Michele's friend ______ was gay. He didn't look it at all.
AUNT 1: Gay guys are the best friends a girl can have.
ME: I think it's only lesbians you have issues with.
Group Laughs
AUNT 2: [DC] is so attractive. I think I might be gay.
Group laughs again
TEEN COUSIN: What's wrong with being gay?
ALL: Nothing!
GRANDPA: [Hard of hearing] Heh?
